A Look Back

Stellar Performances Shake Things Up – A Quick Look At Round 2 Of The 2017 GBO

It was every disc golfer’s dream on Friday – to be in a place that is known for windy and unpredictable weather and to instead see sunshine and a light breeze at most. The disc golf gods smiled down upon Kansas today as players embarked upon round 2 of this year’s GBO. We saw some familiar faces rising to the top of the pack, so let’s take a peek at what happened!

Friday morning’s lead card showcased an impressive performance from Hannah Leatherman, who shot a super hot round at Jones East and carded a -4 for the day. Her bogey-free round put her tied for first with Paige Pierce, who encountered a few challenges. Both holes 4 and 18 brought double-bogeys for Pierce, yet she didn’t let her +2 round shake her confidence. She’s in a good position to play well and take the win during Saturday’s final round.

Pierce and Leatherman will be joined by Lisa Fajkus who sits in third at +3, while Catrina and Jennifer Allen are tied for 4th at 6 over for the tournament. The women’s lead card tees off at 8:30 am local time.

The men’s side of things brought the wow factor to the course, with multiple eagles happening amongst the top two cards. Both Paul McBeth and Ricky Wysocki each scored an eagle during the front nine, and Simon Lizotte carded two back to back eagles along with one more, later on, to put him at an impressive 12 down for the round.

Yet true to form, Wysocki shot the hot round at 13 under, putting himself tied for third place headed into the final round. It’s going to be a tight race, with McBeth leading the pack at 22 down, Nate Sexton in second at -20, and Simon Lizotte and Chris Clemons both with Ricky at 18 down.

Once again we will have four incredibly familiar faces on the men’s lead card. Who will take down the championship this year? Tune in at 3:00 pm local time as SmashboxxTV provides live coverage of the final round at the 2017 Glass Blown Open.
