We never thought that the 1200 openings for the 2016 Glass Blown Open would fill as fast as they did. What took months in previous years took only days this year. We are thrilled that so many of you are so excited to attend! We also realize there are a large number of you who didn’t get a chance to register.
Was it was because you thought you had more time? Weren’t sure of your schedule? Nervous about registering for such a large event? Regardless of the reason, the window has now closed and the wait list is growing. Did you miss your opportunity to enjoy the best event in disc golf???
We would say that you haven’t. Even if you aren’t playing in the event, you can still come to Emporia and have the disc golf time of your life! Let’s take a closer look…
You Can Still Play Disc Golf
We have two GBO one round C-Tier events running on Tuesday 4/26 and Wednesday 4/27. These are walk up registration, play when ready, tournaments. Play well enough and you could win credit at the Dynamic Discs Emporia store. The Dynamic Discs store is a mecca of disc golf shopping and you’ll be sure to find more than a few things you’ll want to take home. Many have said that coming to the Dynamic Discs shop was worth the trip in itself!
If you have a young and up and comer of a disc golfer then bring him or her to the GBO Juniors One Day Event that takes place on Saturday, April 30th. We anticipate the second round for this event to start at noon which will give everyone plenty of time to head over to the Emporia Country Club to watch the Mens final round.
Not up for tournament golf? Plan to be here before or after the event (courses closed for tournament play April 28-30) to try your hand at any of the 6 championship caliber courses that will host the GBO. Play the classic and challenging park style Peter Pan. Use golf carts at the Municipal course. Take on two challenging courses in one site at Jones East and West. Try your hand at the brand new Olpe course. See how you stack up to the pros by playing the Emporia Country Club, site of the final Men’s Pro Open round of the GBO. Emporia is home to an incredible array of championship level disc golf courses.
Watch it All Go Down
Another big reason to come, even if you don’t throw a single disc, is our 2016 GBO Spectator Pack. No YouTube video in the world can convey what it’s like to watch the top pros in our sport play the game we all love. See them throw 500 feet with deadly accuracy. Watch them throw rollers that will amaze you. The accuracy of the putting and approaches will be inspiring. Seeing the great sport of disc golf played at the highest level by people you’ve only seen on a screen is something you’ll never forget.
Block Party!
Not only can you come watch them play, but there’s a good chance you will get to meet and talk with them. Every year we cap off the GBO with a block party. The city of Emporia shuts down several blocks to allow the year’s best disc golf event to wrap up in style. The block party is home to the world’s largest ring of fire. It’s home to the finals of one of the most well known putting competitions in the world. It’s home to vendors and pros selling collectibles and unique discs. It’s where you could run into the likes of Ken “the Champ” Climo, Dave Feldberg, Ricky Wysocki, and host of other top pros. It’s a huge party for disc golfers, put on by disc golfers. It’s the perfect way to wrap up your vacation to Emporia.
